Ice Cube doesn’t think Drake’s feud with Kendrick Lamar is over: ‘Be ready for everything’

Ice Cube has stated that he does not feel Kendrick Lamar has concluded his battle with Drake.

Speaking with Shaquille O’Neal on a recent episode of The Big Podcast, the N.W.A legend shared his perspective on the heated rap feud that ended up implicating families and crazy accusations of paedophilia and domestic violence.

Cube commented on the feud, saying, “I always approve of rap battles.” That is the essence of the game. It traces back to Busy Bee and Kool Moe Dee, and much further. It’s all part of the game as long as it doesn’t become physical, which is not rap.

I’d stay locked and loaded just to be ready for whatever.”

 

“I think Kendrick is up; he’s landed the more hard and effective punches, but Drake can still get off the canvas. “If I were Kendrick, I’d stay locked and loaded just to be ready for anything.”
The comments represent a shift in tone for Ice Cube, who previously declared himself a critic of rap feuds despite having been involved in a couple himself.

“I don’t really like seeing rappers beef,” he stated. “I do not believe it is necessary to have a successful career, but it does happen. Hey, it’s part of the game, and I believe that when you’re in a fight, you can’t hold back. It’s like being in a fight; you can’t just half punch; you have to go full out.”

In May, Ice Cube awarded himself the distinction of best diss song in Hip Hop history.

Cube told the audience at a musical performance that “No Vaseline” is the best diss song in Hip Hop history, and I’ll explain why. One MC, myself, killed four muthafuckas and their manager. You can’t beat that. “You can’t beat that.”

He continued, “But we did that over 30 years ago, so as it stands today, I have nothing but love for N.W.A., okay? “Nothing but love for Dr. Dre, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Eazy-E. Rest in peace.”

During an interview with DJ Whoo Kid last year, Ice Cube scoffed at The Root’s listing of the “Most Unforgettable Diss Tracks in Hip Hop History,” in which “No Vaseline” was ranked third and 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” was ranked first.
“How’s 2Pac number one when he needed help on that record?” Cube asked, referring to the fact that The Outlawz also rap on the song.

“I said, ‘No Vaseline,’ one MC. I love Nas, but it’s not,” he hastily added as the host interrupted to notify him of who was in second place: Nas with “Ether.”

“We took out four n-ggas and the manager. I mean, Damn! “You have to give me credit for that,” he said. “[The] group was done. I’m not sure if they released another record after that. So, nah, man. Sorry!”
